About Me
I am currently a student at the University of the Fraser Valley doing a double major in Honours Philosophy and Sociology. During my time as a student I have studied Philopsophy, Sociology, Political Science, Criminiology, Economics, and Law before residing to specialize in Philosophy and Sociology. I have maintained a GPA apx 3.8-4.0 (4.33 scale) for my academic career and have attained Honour Role and Deans list at Douglas College where I started my degree and at UFV where I currently attend. I'm scheduled to graduate in May 2021 and intend to pursue a Masters degree in the areas of Continental Philsophy, Indigenous Philosophy, or the relationship of both.
My main academic interests specifically are 19th and 20th century French and German philosophy particularily in the area of aesthetics, modern indigneous philosophy and the relevance and importance of decolonization in the 21st century. Particularily, the necessity of decolonization in research methods, governance and colonial assumptions embedded in everyday life that resist decolonization. It is my intention to fill a role in meaningful research of theory, its use in academia and its effects on the era of the anthropocene and the role of theory in colonization and ideological manipulation. Linked writing examples and my CV with further details are at the bottom of this page.
I am also currently the President of the Philosophy Association of UFV going into my second term in the role. As the president and one of the founders, myself and the team have organized events, study groups, reading groups, grad school prep meetings, student opportunities for publishing and presenting papers, film showings with discussion, social events and fundraisers. We have facilitated student engagement, involvement in the discipline, and their success. During my time in this role I have also developed communication tools and an structure for the organization that fosters a team mentality that runs in a communal, effective, and efficient manner utilizing modern technology to redefine successful club and association managment at UFV.
Before going back to school I had worked as a cook and a sous chef while also working as a professional photographer since 2008 shooting weddings, events and commercial work though lately I have resided to more personal work. I have also worked as a freelance professional photograph editor, and spent some time at a Fine-Art photo lab in Vancouver doing image editing, print preparation, and printing for artists such as Jeff Wall, Douglas Coupland, Rodney Graham, Stan Douglas, Heather Benning, David Burdeny and others on works that have ended up in homes, private collections, and galleries such as the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Museum of Modern Art. Throughout these experiences I have gained experience in managing teams in fast paced environments, self directing projects and deadlines, and working at the highest industry standard with high scrutiny and attention to detail.
